Engineer and Secondary Roads
The Secondary Road Department is divided into two divisions, Engineering and Maintenance. The County Engineer, who is appointed by the Board of Supervisors, is in charge of both divisions. The Code of Iowa requires the County Engineer to be a Registered Professional Engineer licensed in Iowa. The County Engineer is responsible for the supervision of all construction and maintenance work performed on all secondary roads in the county. This office is also responsible for the design and construction of all road and bridge projects on our county road system as well as issuing any permits pertaining to use of the roadway. The county's Secondary Road Department is responsible for general maintenance on all county roads. This includes the installation of traffic signs, maintaining road surfaces, ditch drainage on the road right-of-way, vegetation control, and winter snow & ice control.
