Lewis & Clark

Our county seat of Onawa was one of the many stops in 1804 for Meriwether Lewis and William Clark on their expedition across the US to find a water route to the Pacific Ocean. The spot that they stayed is now home to the beautiful Lewis & Clark State Park which is located on Blue Lake, a 250 acre ox-bow created by the meanderings of the Missouri River many years ago. The park offers camping, boating, swimming, hiking, picnic/shelter areas, as well as a new Visitor's Center which houses a museum and a full-sized reproduction of the Lewis & Clark keelboat.
